Castlevania Legends - Game Boy Review

Yet another Castlevania game.  This one is not too bad.  Released in 1997 for the Gameboy with Super Gameboy enhancement.  You play the role of a female protagonist, with the main story being that she wants to bring peace to Transylvania.  I believe there are 5 stages, but there might be 6.  I only played through the first 2 stages.  The game plays like any other 2D Castlevania with a few quirks.  There are 2 power ups for your whip. The first increases the length, and the second will shoot a fireball.  The fireball from your whip will go through walls, which is very nice.  You can find items in the levels but it doesn't appear that you can use them.  I got an ax on the first stage but could not figure out how to use it.  The graphics for this game are pretty good for the Gameboy and the music is really good.  Game play is OK.  Honestly, it gets kind of repetitive after awhile, and the enemies re spawn if you go off the screen and come back.  Overall, I give this game a 6 out of 10.  It a bit above average, but nothing great about it.

Killer Instinct - Game Boy Review

Killer Instinct on Game Boy?  Seriously, why did this ever get made?  To start off with, Game Boy has 2 buttons.  I believe this game originally utilized 6 buttons.  It is impossible to play, it is slow, and the graphics are choppy and blocky.  The music is terrible.  It sounds like just a bunch of beeping. The last screen shot above shows the game on the Game Boy player cart on the SNES with the color border. Do yourself a favor and just stick with the SNES version of this game.  Overall, it gets a 2 out of 10.  Cheesy and barely playable.

Rolan's Curse - Game Boy Review

This is a Zelda style adventure game.  It is very basic but fun considering it was on an 8 bit handheld.  You basically embark to save the world from monsters.  The game can get very repetitive and frustrating at times.  You have your sword which is used by the B button and you pick up secondary items such as potions to heal and axes to cut down dead trees that you can use with the A button.  Enemies re spawn making it easy to power up your hearts early in the game.  This is not a bad game, it's just not very fun after about 20 minutes or so.  Average at best, but good overall for a Game Boy adventure title. Overall, I give it a middle of the road 5 out of 10 stars.  Don't expect too much from this one.

Dr Mario Game Boy Review

I never really cared for this game very much.  This version is identical to the NES version.  The purpose of the game is that pills drop, you line them up with the corresponding colors or in this case grey scales.  When you get 4 of the same it clears.  The goal is to make a four match on the viruses that are randomly generated.  Overall I give the game 5 out of 10 stars.  Some people love the game and think it is the best thing in the world.  I am not one of those people that really like it.
