Flipper Slipper - ColecoVision Review

This game is advertised as a pinball game.  It is more of a breakout style game really.  There are two "flippers" that you can move left and right.  The "flippers" are also tilt-able to the left and right.  The goal of the game is to get the highest score possible.  You can hit the forest area at the top and cut down the trees.  You can hit the ten links of chain fence in the top center of the screen to break away the fence and let the dog escape for bonus score.  When you hit 10000 points, the floating beach house in the center turns into a bumper increasing the difficulty.  Graphics and sound are on par with the ColecoVision in 1983.  Game play is ok, I guess.  The game gets repetitive and boring pretty fast.  It is plagued with the problem that most early brick breaker games had; you are left with one or two things to break but the ball never reaches them.  Overall, I give this game a 4 out of 10.  Not a horrible game, but there are far better games on the ColecoVision.

Urban Champion - NES Review

This is an original launch title, one of the 30 "black box" games that were released at the NES launch.  There is not much to the game.  You work from left to right, street fighting your opponent.  The B button is your "hard" punch, and the A button is your jab.  You can punch in the stomach or the head.  You also have a stamina meter and a time meter.  When the time meter runs out, if nobody has won, the game is over.  When the stamina meter runs out, you no longer have your "hard" punch at your disposal.  You also have to watch out for people dropping flower pots from the buildings' second floor windows.  If you get hit with a flower pot, you will be stunned for a few seconds.  The graphics and sound are mediocre as with most early NES games.  The game play is not very good, no real strategy involved, just button mashing really.  This is not a game I would play regularly.  Overall, I give it a 4 out of 10.  It is not really worth the time to play.

Astro Robo Sasa - Famicom Review

Very basic game for the Famicom.  You are a robot that shoots out energy balls.  The way that you move, is to shoot an energy ball in the opposite direction you want to go.  It is hard to get the hang of it, but after awhile it gets pretty easy.  This is an arcade style game where you clear one screen at a time by getting all the energy pods on the level.  You do have to avoid cows and helicopters, etc.  Graphics are alright for the time period and sound is as well.  Every time you shoot, you use energy.  If your energy gets to zero, you die.  Overall, I give this game a 4 out of 10 stars.  Not exactly a game I would play all the time.

Yoshi - NES Review

It is very hard for me to fairly rate puzzle games, but I try.  This is a Tetris like game where two pieces at a time fall.  You can't move the pieces as the are falling, you can only rotate ones than have already fell.  Match two and they go away and you score points.  There is also a 2 player simultaneous mode.  Graphics and sound are on par with the NES and the game play is what it should be for a puzzle game.  Overall, I will give this game a 4 out of 10 stars.  I am sure it would rank higher for someone who likes puzzle games.

Space Invaders '91 Genesis Review

An upgraded 16 bit version of a not so great game.  The graphics and sound are obviously better with this remake.  The game play however is exactly the same.  They could have done something to make the game play a little different.  You get power ups like lasers and better shields and some of the enemies have to be shot multiple times to kill them.  Basically, it is still Space Invaders.  Very weak in my opinion and not very fun just like the original.  Overall, I give this game 4 out of 10 stars, and I am being extremely generous.

Amidar Atari 2600 Review

This game is one screen, what you see above.  You are a yellow guy that moves around the screen "painting" as you go.  The goal is to paint around a box so it fills in.  You avoid green alien looking guys that go around the screen randomly.  If you press the fire button, they go away for a few seconds allowing you to pass through them.  You have 5 of these power ups per life.  When you complete half the level, the green dudes turn into ducks for about 20 or 30 seconds and scatter away from you.  When they are ducks you can kill them.  The game reminds me of Qix a lot.  I believe this is an arcade port.  The game play is slow and there are barely any sounds at all.  The game is kind of boring and not really very fun.  Overall, it gets a 4 out of 10 stars.

Olympic Summer Games Sega Genesis Review

Nothing special about this game.  Not even a fun game.  Graphics are pretty good for the Genesis but the sound and music are terrible.  The game play sucks.  The game is very hard to control and seems to be very unrealistic.  The music that is blasting over everything in the game is horrible.  Overall, I give this game a 4 out of 10.  Don't go out of your way to play it.  It is below average.

Destruction Derby Playstation Review

This is an early release game for the Playstation.  Came out in 1995.  This game is not as fun as I remember it.  The graphics are not very good as it is an early release and the music is kind of repetitive.  There are a few different modes you can play.  Practice mode, Race mode, Demolition Derby mode, and race wreckin mode.  The mode most fun is probably the race wreckin mode because you get to race around a track and crash into people.  The game play is not that great and the game get pretty boring after a few minutes.  The annoying voice over guy yelling things like "Get outta my way!" is pretty stupid.  Like I said, this game is fun for a few minutes and then it becomes boring.  Overall, I give it a 4 out of 10.

Pac-Man Atari 2600 Review

Alright, There are really no other screen shots to show.  This is it.  An arcade port that was rushed to come out for Christmas and resulted in a horrible game right?  Not quite.  The game is not all that horrible.  The graphics are not very good and the game play is super slow compared to the arcade, but this is an Atari 2600, not a powerful machine at all.  Most people played the game for 5 minutes and then said it was horrible.  The fact of the matter is, when you clear about 5 boards, it starts getting challenging.  It is a bad game, don't get me wrong, but it is not the worst game ever.  I am not a super huge Pac-Man fan anyway so I wouldn't really play this game much, but if you want a challenge, pop it in and clear the first 5 boards and then play the real game.  Overall, I give this game a 4 out of 10 stars (GASP!).  Try it, actually give it a chance.. It's not complete shit like you have been led to believe.  Come at it with a new seasoned gamers outlook..  :)

Great Golf Sega Master System Review

Typical 8 bit golf game here.  Nothing special.  I am not a big fan of golf games at all.  This one seems to play really slow and sluggish.  It seems to be about the same as any other 8 bit golf game.  I don't really have much to say about it.  Sorry.  I give it a 4 out of 10 stars.  Average to a bit below average.

Burning Force Sega Genesis Review

This game is a shoot em up for the Genesis.  Good shoot em ups on the Genesis are few and far between and this one is not very good.  The graphics are crude for a 16 bit system and the game play is not very good.  You start out on a hover bike thing that moves left and right and shoots.  You collect different power ups along the way like wide shot, missiles, and laser beams.  You can control the speed of the hover bike as well.  After you beat 2 stages with the hover bike with a mini boss on each stage, you then switch to a ship that can go up and down as well as left and right.  The 3rd stage is where you fight the main boss which is not super hard.  The game does get harder as you progress through it.  Overall I give this game a 4 out of 10.  Crude game play was really the factor that knocked this one way down in rating.  It plays like about at least 30 other Genesis games that must use the same engine as this game does.

Dynowarz NES Review

This game is a side scrolling platformer.  Yet another game that people absolutely hate.  I don't find the game that bad.  Yes it is repetitive, but after playing for a few minutes I had the desire to keep pressing on to go through the entire thing.  You start out as a guy in a spacesuit with a gun that fires a spread shot.  You go through a level and jump in to a robot dinosaur that you control and fight against other robots.  Then you jump out, fight through another level and destroy a pulsating brain like thing at the end of the level.  You then backtrack through the level and jump into your robot dinosaur where you are transported to the next stage.  There are 7 stages in all.  The game doesn't really get any more difficult, the stages are just longer.  The power ups in the game suck and it appears that not much though was put into them.  Overall I give the game a 4 out of 10.  Its entertaining for a bit but not a game you would play on a regular basis.  There are worse NES games though for all the haters out there.

Rad Racer 2 NES Review

OK, number 1, why did Square make this game?  Anyway, this game is just a recycled version of the original Rad Racer.  The game play and graphics are identical to the original.  It doesn't even make any sense why they put this game out.  The only thing challenging about it is there are these red cars that actually try to block you.  I don't remember that in the original, but I could be wrong. The music is also different and the dashboard display.  I didn't see anywhere in the game where you could select a different car.  Maybe when you get to later stages, you win a different car?  The bottom line is that overall I give this game a 4 out of 10.  Same old recycled crap that Squaresoft should be embarrassed about even putting out.
